Micky van de Ven found the net on two occasions as Tottenham extended their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and handed the Toffees their first defeat at their new home.

Everton were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed Goodison Park behind after 133 years at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain the Dutchman pounced on two occasions from set-pieces in the opening 45 minutes to place their strong form at risk, and they were failed to mount a comeback before the midfielder - assisted by former Toffees attacker the Brazilian - nodded in a third to put the game to bed.

Jake O'Brien believed he had equalized the tally a short while after the defender's first goal, glancing a powerful header past the Spurs keeper from an Everton corner.

The Portuguese striker, in the meantime, failed to convert a handful of opportunities, while Vicario made a series of fine stops to ensure the London club went five away games without defeat in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee stepped in, instructing Craig Pawson to review the score on the screen and the referee decided that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in an illegal position and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

This victory elevates the manager's side into third place in the division, five points off north London rivals and leaders Arsenal.

Everton remain 14th and sit six points ahead of the drop zone.

Tottenham analysis: Van de Ven excels in duties at both ends of the field

Following a drab weekday performance in the Champions League against the French side, where they mustered a mere two shots on goal, Frank opted for Randal Kolo Muani in attack instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The new arrival was unable to influence the game before being replaced for Richarlison after an hour on the pitch, but it emerged he wasn't needed in the end.

Centre-back Van de Ven transformed into an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Tottenham's opening strike came from a cleverly executed set-piece play, with the midfielder heading the ball back across the six-yard box for an unmarked the defender to head home.

And the captain - stepping up as skipper in Cristian Romero's unavailability - added his next goal in first-half stoppage time as he rose above Jordan Pickford to head home.

Van de Ven was just as outstanding in defensive duties, partnering effectively with Kevin Danso as the duo dealt excellently with the 34 crosses sent their way by Everton.

Toffees breakdown: Toffees lacking finishing touch

Everton's new home had been a happy hunting ground, but it seems the novelty may have worn off somewhat and fans flocked to the exits after the midfielder's final goal for Tottenham.

The end in the team's unbeaten home run won't be a massive worry for the manager, but their striker situation will be.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Everton's two established strikers - had netted only one league goal combined before the weekend's outing.

And they were unable to contribute to that miserable record on a damp and dreary night on Merseyside.

Beto's form was summed up when he opted to overhead kick a golden opportunity from close range, despite having room and opportunity to readjust for a simpler attempt that would have tested Vicario.

Barry, too, was unable to influence the game after coming on for the starter in the second half.

It wasn't for a lack of chance. Most of the home side's attacks came through the winger and Ndiaye, who tirelessly whipped threatening crosses into the Spurs box.
