Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at all of the last five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the title advantage from Piastri by just one point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before sprint qualifying scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in realistic title contention, trailing 36 points Norris, finished in P17 as his team followed a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, if briefly, when he rotated at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda slid over the curbs on exit before spinning across the run-off area, and was lucky to escape with just a minor contact of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho turn approaching the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in 19th place, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, over half a second behind Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
